Thousands of Jewish people live in extreme poverty in Gondar, Ethiopia as they wait for immigration to Israel.
Whether they remain there as an independent community or move to Israel in the future, Meketa's goal is to give them skills so they can create a better economic and social future.
Meketa helps this community to help themselves.
This young woman learned to sew, purchased a sewing machine and set up a small business through Meketa's Training and Employment and Microloan projects.
She can now support her three young daughters.
We support many people pursuing other business ventures.
THE PROJECTS THAT HELP OUR COMMUNITY
Ethiopia has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. Our club supports children's education.
Applicants compile a business plan and they receive a loan based upon its merit. Meketa assists with start-up and provides ongoing support.
Meketa helps school leavers and job seekers by giving them training in a skill that can lead to employment.
Local craftsmen and craftswomen make Tallitot and Kippot which are for sale in our shop.
Sponsored children receive a school uniform and set of books at the start of the school year, in addition to a monthly direct payment.
